PLEASE NOTE: These overlays contain only artwork to enhance your gaming experience – they do not include the games themselves, or the MAME software required to run them. Learn more about MAME and download it here, or read this quick introduction to how it works. HOW TO USE  

These overlays (sometimes known as bezels) display art on top of the game you're playing. To use them, you need a PC or Raspberry Pi (or other compatible system) running some version of MAME and the associated game software, as well as a widescreen (16x9) monitor mounted vertically. To display the overlay while playing a game, download the artwork file for that game overlay (it must have the same filename as the game), place it in the Artwork folder within your MAME directory and launch the game. (For instance, the software for the game Magic Sword is called msword.zip, so it requires a file in the Artwork directory also called msword.zip.)

Filter the results with the controls at the top, then choose the MAME or RetroArch version with the switch at the top (blue for MAME, red for RetroArch), and use the button on any game to download. Select the game image or name to learn more about the game, or select a manufacturer or genre to see all games associated with it.

For MAME, simply download the Zip file and place it in your Artwork directory. For RetroArch, unzip the file and place the individual files in the enclosed RetroArch folder in the appropriate places on your hard drive (watch this video to learn how to install the overlays for RetroArch). Unzipping the RetroArch Zip files in your RetroArch directory should install the necessary files in their respective directories on your hard drive.

Many of the MAME overlays include multiple presets that let you choose the size of the game screen, access a "dark" version designed to look more like a dark arcade, and sometimes other options. To choose a preset, press Tab while running the game to bring up the MAME menu, select Video Options, and select a preset from the list.

Because RetroArch does not allow you to select multiple overlay options, we have included options within some that you can select. RetroArch overlays that include multiple Zip files include different versions – just unzip the version you want to install it. Some RetroArch overlays include multiple overlay images with different filenames, e.g. "game.png" and "game_dark.png" – in those cases, change the filename of the version you wish to use to the name of the folder containing the files (usually the game name or an abbreviation).
